Tom Moynagh, Managing Director

Tom has been involved in the information technology industry since graduating from New York University (Brooklyn Polytech) in 1976 with a degree in Computer Science.

His early career began with Digital as a Systems Engineer with duties including hardware design and corporate support, covering all of North America. During his time with Digital, Tom worked on banking sites such as MHLC, City Bank (NY), Federal Reserve (Washington), American Express (NY) and Moorgan Guarantee. 

Tom returned to Ireland with Digital Equipment Corporation and in 1983 set up in partnership, a third party Computer Company called Parity Modules/Maintenance. This company was formed to address alternative technology products in the Digital Equipment marketplace and was successfully sold in 1989 to Reflex PLC.

In 1989 together with colleges Tom founded Sysnet. The objective of Sysnet was to create an ‘open computer system marketplace’. The protocol TCPIP was one of the ingredients of the company’s early years’ developments and today TCPIP is the protocol on which the ‘Internet’ is based. During the past sixteen years Sysnet has pioneered many new and innovative markets such as Virtual Reality, 3D Visualization and integration of heterogeneous technologies into open systems. During this period Sysnet was also a leading company in the distribution and support of 3-D CAD software.

In 2000 Sysnet, acknowledging the change in traditional IT and the global development of the Internet, realized quite quickly that it would need to address opportunities in Internet technology. Sysnet set about addressing the Internet security requirements as it was a natural progression from their traditional market, and additionally it became apparent that it would be one of the last issues that needed to be addressed if ‘online transactions’ were to become the norm for tomorrow’s business. Sysnet took a decision to invest its future in its independent security companies market and embarked on a major training and certification program. To date it is the only indigenous security computer company in Ireland to have achieved ISO 27001 certification. Additionally, to maintain its position as ‘independent’, the company is completely vendor independent and does not resell any security products, thereby guaranteeing that it shall not be influenced by the brand of products it encounters during independent audits etc.
